Angela Maddens first Trip to Bridlington

Well this week sees Angela Maddens first trip to teach at The Royal Bridlington.

The first workshop was Celtic Design.

We spent the morning learning about how to design and then making two of our own.

We made our designs on 1/8 of a square then traced by folding the greaseproof paper.

Here are some of the students designs

After a delicious lunch Angela showed us how to transfer our design to our fabric and then make the bias and apply to create our designs.

Here are some of Angela's Designs

Day two - Beautiful Blooms

To learn Angela's technique of raw edge applique we all completed a simple tulip

A couple of us then started on an Iris

Day Three - Decorative Edges

Today we made samples of some of Angela's decorative edge techniques

These are some of Angela's samples

And here are some of ours

Another fantastic Retreat with Gail Lawther

Following the outstanding success of last years retreat with Gail Lawther and the large number of people who were on the waiting list for a space, Gail and I decided to run the same workshops/retreat again this year.

Lots of the students have travelled long distances this time and so a good number of them arrived the day before and settled in.

Day one was Stained Glass and students could choose either a Mackintosh type Rose or a Venetian Scene.

Early on in the day, one lady started having trouble with her machine. What ever we tried it just wouldn't sew & kept breaking needles.  I managed to call John & Barbara at Bridlington Sewing Centre. Barbara said she would come & collect the machine & take it for John to have a look at.  She returned the machine within two hours - all fixed! The bobbin case had been damaged, the timing was out.  What superb service. Thank you John & Barbara.

Make sure you call in when you are in Bridlington.  John is a whiz with machines and you can even arrange to have yours serviced whilst you are here at The Royal Bridlington.

Here are some of the works in progress

Jo's cute doggy pin cushion

Day Two was Glimpes of New Zealand. Students could chose Maori Curves or a seascape.

Students work in progress

Day Three - Monet or Van Gogh. The choice today was Sunflowers or Water/ leaf design.

Marion made this one as a consequences challenge with her local group

Glenda brought a bag with her which she had made and has used the Seminole which we made in Beryl Franks Workshop to decorate.

So if you missed out this time Gail will be back teaching again next year - 22nd/23rd/24th September 2015 . The leaflet is available here  http://www.quiltsandwich.co.uk/#!workshops/c24c2
