Retreat with Sally Ablett - First day

Yesterday was the first day of our retreat with Sally Ablett and it is Sally's first time teaching here at The Royal Bridlington.

Sally designs quilts and project for many of the patchwork and quilting magazines and she also works for Fabric Freedom where she designs patterns to help promote new ranges of fabric.

The project was Hunter Star which is a traditional pattern, but using Sally's method with squares rather than triangles.

We had a superb, relaxed and fun day with Sally and here are some pictures of the students work so far.

This is the layout of the block

One or two of the ladies invented a couple of new patterns by accident, so Sally recreated new layouts on 'Electric Quilt' which is the software programme she uses to design her work.

But........where is Sally?

Before Sally arrived at the hotel, I searched the net for a picture of her and found just one possible snap.  Yesterday Sally confirmed she is camera shy.  Watch this space...I'm on a mission - lol!

LONGARM QUILTING SERVICE

After all the practice which we got on the quilting of the charity quilts, we are now ready to launch our longarm quilting pantograph (all over design) service.

Here is Rodney & Dell Boy - our fantastic ABM Innova Longarm and computer. Rodney has a 26 inch throat and sits on an 11 ft table. Dell Boy - our pc controls the digital pantographs.

Full details of this are available on www.quiltsandwich.co.uk and you can also browse throgh some of the quilts we have already done and some of the patterns we currently have.

If there is a specific pattern which you require and we dont already have it - there is no problem. We can download pattern from the internet instantly - although there is a small additional charge for this.

So there is no need to now struggle with large and awkward quilts under your domestic machine.

I  will also be stocking a range of extra wide quilt backings, which make the job a whole lot easier too as there is no need to have to join and press seams to create a piece of material big enough.

Wadding - I shall also have a range of waddings (rolls) available by the metre.

Any questions just give me a call on 01262 672433 or email me - fiona@royalhotelbrid.co.uk

Leonie Pujol from Create and Craft TV is coming to Bridlington

Leonie Pujol from Create and Craft TV is coming to Bridlington to teach three papercraft workshops which can be combined for those who wish to stay over into a retreat.

She will be teaching lots of exciting techniques which will be bang up to date.

About Leonie

Leonie has been crafting since she was a little girl, and like every crafter she knows, she loves trying everything crafty.
"The wonderful thing about craft, there is always something new to learn and try."
She is self taught, starting with craft as a hobby, progressing to selling her work at craft fairs, and now having the amazing opportunity to work as a craft presenter on Create and Craft.

She is passionate about sharing, and learning new techniques - and really loves being surrounded by people who share her enthusiasm and joy from such a wonderful and rewarding hobby. After approximately 15 years in the industry, She now designs, writes regular craft magazine articles and teaches through workshops and demonstrations.

Sunday 23rd March 2014      One Day Workshop 10am to 4pm

Stamping

Leonie loves stamping, there are so many beautiful stamps available, there really is something for everyone.
In this workshop we will cover a number of stamping techniques, using some of my favourite stamps.  Please do not worry if you have never stamped before - or if you have had problems stamping in the past, classes are always the best way to learn this fantastic craft.  This class will be suitable for all levels, and crammed with techniques.

Monday 24th March 2014  One Day Workshop  10am to 4pm

Embellished and Beautiful

Whether cardmaking, scrapbooking or Altered Art, embellishments are always an essential part of our finished project.  For this workshop we will work with the most up-to-date embellishments, and learn how to create our own.  Again, technique heavy and great for everyone.

Tuesday 25th March One Day Workshop  10am to 4pm

Backgrounds

Leonie loves working on making her own backgrounds for projects.  There are so many products available to allow us to make all our creations individual.  In this workshop we will explore different techniques to make our own incredible background tag book - and see how effective a background can be when used in the finished project

ALL Workshops  £ 55 per day
Price includes ALL MATERIALS, morning coffee & biscuits on arrival, two course hot /cold buffet lunch, coffee and afternoon tea & cake and not forgetting Leonie’s expert tuition. All workshops will be up to date projects & not those pictured.

Pat Archibald Retreat - Day Two

Well most of the ladies continued to work on their pieces after dinner last night and some were still going strong at 11pm!

After a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast they are all fit and rearing to go with todays project - Celtic Connection.

This workshop was insprired by Pats Origional piece shown below.

Pat has strong ties with the Hebredies as her brother and daughter both live there. The inspiration for this piece comes from there and the Harris Tweed Industry.

So here is the progress so far
